Finish Carpenter

The finish carpenter is responsible for performing finish carpentry at the highest level to maintain the company’s quality, safety, schedule, and budgetary goals. This position requires a high degree of competency in finish carpentry methods, and techniques, including the proper and safe use of tools, and a good understanding of millwork and finishes. Additionally, the finish carpenter must know all aspects of rough carpentry and framing. This position requires good general physical fitness and balance as the work requires repeated standing, lifting, carrying items up to 60 lbs., working on ladders, and walking throughout the day. The position also requires the ability to communicate (in both written and spoken English) with co-workers, subcontractors, project team members, and building personnel. Some training of other carpenters on site may be required. The finish carpenter reports primarily to the site superintendent or the Rusk service manager on a day-by-day basis.

Qualifications:

  • Proven ability to excel in both independent and collaborative settings
  • Expert knowledge of layout, laser, transit level, plumb bob, and other equipment, to ensure that all surfaces are plumb, level, and square in order to conform to plans and specifications
  • In-depth understanding of building codes and best practices to ensure quality and safety
  • Extensive knowledge of wood species, finishes, and construction methods, for luxury projects
  • Experience with metal and wood framing techniques for diverse structural needs
  • Ability to decipher blueprints and translate them into flawless carpentry execution
  • Ability to make hand drawn sketches
  • Able to safely and effectively operate hand and power tools
  • Meticulous attention to detail and exceptional craftsmanship
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for seamless collaboration with team members
  • Reliable transportation and flexible work schedule to accommodate project demands
  • OSHA 40 certification
  • Driver’s license
  • Aerial lift training and certification

Responsibilities:

  • Execute intricate millwork and custom cabinetry installations with unparalleled precision
  • Breathe life into architectural details through flawless trim and molding work
  • Collaborate with designers and project managers to seamlessly translate vision into reality
  • Masterfully frame walls, soffits, and other structures using both metal- and wood- framing methods
  • Install doors, frames, windows, and hardware with a commitment to functionality and aesthetics
  • Proficiently field mortise hinges, locks, and other hardware
  • Maintain a spotless work environment, prioritizing safety and organization
  • Bring discrepancies and special conditions to the attention of site superintendent

Tools and Equipment Required:

  • Set of professional quality hand tools, drills, and impact drivers.

Education and Relevant Experience Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalency. Additional vocational education in carpentry or other skilled trades is preferred.
  • Minimum seven years of experience in high-end residential finish carpentry (minimum of four years of experience in Manhattan)

Work Details:

  • Job: full time (hourly)
  • Work location: jobsites
  • Schedule: Monday-Friday for 7.5-hour shifts
  • Pay: $30-$45 (hourly)
